Self-Driven Synchronous Rectification Scheme for Wide Range Application of DC/DC Converters with Symmetrically Driven Transformers

چکیده
Synchronous rectifiers are widely used in low voltage and high current DC/DC converters to reduce conduction power loss. For popular and reliable topologies, such as Half-bridge, Push-pull and Phase-shifted Full-bridge, the application of self-driven synchronous rectification has design challenges due to the existence of dead times. Existing solutions are not suitable for wide input voltage ranges. This paper presents a new self-driven scheme which properly combines the signal from the transformer and output inductor to drive the MOSFETs. This method provides a suitable solution for wide range input application, since the risk of exceeding the gate voltage rating is greatly reduced. The synchronous rectifier is driven during all the conduction period, and thus greatly reduces the power loss. The influence of the leakage inductance in practical application is also analyzed. Experimental results based on a 36-75V input, 2.5V/30A output prototype are shown to verify the proposed scheme.

Synchronous rectification is a commonly used technique to improve the efficiency of DC/DC converters with low (<=5V) output voltages and high output currents. Control of the synchronous rectifiers in forward converters has been accomplished in many different ways, from self-driven to complexly controlled techniques. Most existing control techniques allow the synchronous rectifier’s body diode t...

Four new topologies of active input current shapers (AICSs) for converters with symmetrically driven transformers (such as half-bridge, full-bridge and push-pull) have recently been proposed. This paper analyzes the extension of the use of these new AICSs topologies to converters with asymmetrically driven transformers. Using some of these topologies, the size of AICS inductors can be reduced a...

Computer and telecommunication systems tend to demand lower supply voltages than 3.3V. This fact raises the challenge of obtaining high efficiency DC/DC converters with low output voltage. We have implemented a compact converter with an output voltage of 1.5V. The output power is 5W and the converter has been provided with galvanic isolation between input and output sides. The windings of the m...
